When you first setup your account with Pathway, the initial email address is both an email address and a POP account name in your email program. So for example, 'username@pathcom.com' is your email address and just 'username@pathcom.com' is used for the POP account name in your email program.
Now that you are adding extra mailboxes, this becomes split up into two values. the Alias name and the User ID account name.
Requirements
Your email address becomes the Alias name you chose, and the POP account name becomes the User ID value. The User ID account name does not change. Your E-mail alias address can change to whatever is available and is not limited to 8 characters. An E-mail alias may be 26 characters in length, and should be a mix of regular, alpha-numeric characters only, without any spaces.
We would suggest making the Alias larger than 8 characters to not conflict with already existing dialup usernames, and therefore more likely for you to use your choice.
Example
So for example, if I enter john.smith as the Alias name, this would mean that john.smith@pathcom.com becomes the email address and reply address in my email program. The POP account name then is the User ID name of the mailbox, u1000XXXX and not the Alias name john.smith.
Help
Just remember that the User ID is the POP account name and the Alias name is the E-mail address, but your E-mail address can be used as the POP account name for simplicity of your E-mail client setup
The advantage to this setup is that the alias name can change any number of times without requiring a new mailbox setup with your account. All of this can be done online for added convienence.
